Last night as I got off work, I went to pick up my wife from School, and I was informed that a close childhood friend of her's was moving because they had decided to get a cat and she had volunteered my services in helping them move to a new apartment for the evening, At first I was a bit upset, having JUST gotten off of work and then I remembered, that this friend of hers was the ONLY person who had the willingness to drive 35 miles into the middle of nowhere on a cold winter morning and pick us up from a small random car body shop where our rental car had just been towed because I had been pushed off the road into the center divider of the freeway by a semi-truck who decided to pull into my lane, (That is another story) At any rate, upon thinking of this, My attitude towards helping him and his wife move changed, and I actually wanted to be there returning the favor that I felt I owed them.
I have actually helped dozens and dozens of people and families move since I've been a child, and this is the first time that I can remember actually being happy that I was the "go-go guy" for the large complicated furniture when it came time to get it out the door and into the truck, Being a big Tetris player myself, I also found it fun to try and puzzle all of the pieces together inside the U-Haul. I continued to enjoy myself as we loaded, and unloaded load after load of furniture and boxes into the newer, but smaller apartment of theirs.
The stairway into the new apartment was narrow and steep, at the bottom it had a small landing pad that led directly into the door, Several pieces were difficult to move into the apartment due the lack of pivotal direction, One piece in particular was hard to get in, A tall and fat couch, This couch took up the entire width of the stairway and when stood on it's side, was just a bit too large to fit into the door without pivoting sideways, This took us quite a while, as 4 men tried to push and pivot the couch into the living room, After about 10 minutes, We managed to get it in, The expression was the same from all the guys, "Oh-Yeah!" we all said in a Kool-Aid Man type of voice, This continued throughout the evening as we managed to squeeze pieces of furniture into doorways and past tight corners.
After nearly 4 hours, this friend we were moving for ordered 4 extra large Papa John's Pizza's and we all sat in the living room furniture that we had worked so hard to get in, eating pizza, laughing and enjoying each others company. "I was going to get ready made 5 buck pizza, and then we managed to get that couch in, and it became Papa John's for sure!" He exclaimed at the site of us laughing and sharing. This brings me to my point, Pizza, has been there for nearly every move that I have ever been through to feed the crew, Pizza, is portable, easy, and delicious! Moving, as I stated, is proudly sponsored by Pizza.
